Tour Details
Explore two of Sri Lanka’s UNESCO World Heritage sites and visit Sri Lanka's popular wildlife sanctuary, Minneriya National Park, on a privately guided day trip to Dambulla and the Sigiriya Rock from your pickup location. Start with an early morning pickup from your hotel or any location in Sri Lanka
Make your first stop at the Dambulla Cave Temple. Experience the scenic Sri Lankan countryside and villages as you journey to the atmospheric Dambulla Cave Temple, a cliffside cave complex packed with Buddha images and frescoes. Enter the historic caves of the Golden Temple of Dambulla, which date back to the 1st century BC. Marvel at the ancient murals depicting the life story of Lord Gautama Buddha and observe the hundreds of figurines of Buddha and other deities scattered throughout the five main caves. Don't miss the giant golden Buddha Statue just a short distance outside the cave complex.
Afterwards, we will proceed to Sigiriya to visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Climb the 5th century AD Lion Rock fortress, where King Kassapa once ruled. Walk through the entrance framed by the paws of a lion, which is quite fitting for its name, the Lion Rock. Admire the beautiful unfading murals that have brought Sigiriya its fame. Ascend the steep staircase to see the terraced gardens and still-functioning cisterns. Explore the tunnels leading to the palace and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of times long past.
Our final stop is Minneriya National Park for a thrilling jeep safari experience. Seize the golden opportunity to witness Asia’s largest gathering of mighty elephants, as they wander in the green grassland overlooking the beautiful Minneriya reservoir. This reservoir is also a popular spot to see large herbivorous mammals like sambar and axis deer. Additionally, keep an eye out for rare and endangered species such as leopards, sloth bears, and the slender loris.
After the safari, you will be returned to your hotel or drop-off location in the evening.
